Q: What is MasterCard SecureCode? |
A: MasterCard SecureCode is a new service created to enhance your Debit Card when you use it on the Internet. The new, private code provides you with additional protection against unauthorized use of your card when you shop at participating online merchants. It works just like the PIN number that you key in at an ATM machine or a POS terminal at the store. Visit the MasterCard website for further information from MasterCard at the following link: http://www.mastercard.com/securecd/welcome.do |
Q: What is the format for the MasterCard SecureCode? |
A: You must select an alphanumeric code between 6-10 characters long for each card. |
Q: What is a personal greeting? |
A: The Personal Greeting is a message that you create during registration. Once you have completed the registration, each time you make an online purchase, a small window will appear and ask you to enter the MasterCard SecureCode. In this window you will see your Personal Greeting. If your Personal Greeting is not correct, contact the number on the back of your Debit Card immediately. |
Q: What if I forget my MasterCard SecureCode? |
A: If you forget your SecureCode when making a purchase online, you will be supplied with your Secret Question. If you then supply the correct answer, your purchase will be completed. |
Q: What is the Signature Panel Code? |
A: On the back of your Debit Card in the signature panel, you will find a 3-digit code. This is an extra security feature to ensure that you have physical possession of the card being registered. |
Q: How does MasterCard SecureCode work? |
A: After you have registered and created your private SecureCode, you will be automatically prompted at checkout to provide your SecureCode each time you make a purchase at a participating online merchant. Your code will never be shared with the merchant or any other participating merchants. |
Q: How does MasterCard SecureCode protect me? |
A: When you enter your SecureCode during a purchase at a participating online merchant, you confirm that you are the authorized Debit Card holder in order to complete your purchase. If an incorrect SecureCode is entered, the purchase will not be completed. |
Q: What happens if I cancel my Debit Card or receive a new one with a different account number? |
A: You will have to register the new card for MasterCard SecureCode. Simply return to the registration site and complete the process with your new card. |
Q: Can two people with a joint account use the same password or should they register separately? |
A: Both persons should register separately and create their own MasterCard SecureCode. |
Q: How do I find out who the participating online merchants are? |
A: Simply click here to check the list. |
Q: What are the system requirements for MasterCard SecureCode? |
A: MasterCard SecureCode works with most browsers. Please be aware that some software which provides protection against pop-up windows, may interfere with your use of SecureCode. |
